The Netherlands beat Turkey 81-73 after a brilliant second half and will play for fifth place at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women. After the disappointing loss in the Quarter-Finals against Belgium, when they had the opportunity to send the game to overtime at the buzzer, Turkey started on full speed against Netherlands. They were leading 27-15 after the first quarter, and they kept the pace until midway through the second, when the score was 40-26 in their favour. But the Dutch managed to close that gap to nine at halftime, 43-34 for Turkey, in a sign of things to come. After a partial score of 18-8, the Netherlands took their first lead in the game, 52-51, behind a three-pointer by Loyce Betonvil. Turkey held on for another couple of minutes, but then it all went downhill. The Netherlands used a 10-0 run in the beginning of the third quarter to make it 73-64 and never looked back. Betonvil had a big game with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Ozge Kavurmacioglu finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals in a losing effort. |
