Ivlev, Russia Too Much For Brave Dutch

Vladimir Ivlev was once again too hot to handle in U20 European Championship action in Makarska, Croatia, as the Russian power-house conjured up another MVP performance with 15 points and 13 rebounds to help his team remain unbeaten and ensure Netherlands are still searching for a first win in Division A.

While at times the newcomers really struggled, as in their first game with France they battled hard right to the last second before eventually going down 79-71.

Netherlands did cause Russia problems and pushed them hard but ultimately, the added power in the paint and superior talent of the Russian team was decisive - even if they did only score eight points during the last quarter.

It had only been a one shot game heading into the break at 44-41 but a big third quarter ended any slight glimmer Netherlands had of chalking up their first success in the top flight.

Russia then found some rhythm and racked up 27 points in the third period to lead 71-54 before a late drought and better Netherlands defence added some respectability to the final margin.

Shooter Grigory Andreev top scored for Russia with 17 points while the hard working Mohammed Kherrazi pulled down a creditable 12 rebounds in less than 23 minutes for Netherlands.
