Roeland Schaftenaar had spent four years in Spain; the two leading up to the summer of 2014 in the competitive second division. Called up for the Orange Lions, who had a number of absences on the forward spots, Schaftenaar grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He led the team in scoring, dropping 18 and 14 points in the all-important wins against Montenegro, whilst also adding solid rebounding. The big man can spread the floor and drilled more than half of his triples in qualification, making sure teams will respect him on the perimeter once EuroBasket tips-off. Schaftenaar followed up his break-out summer with a move to Greek side Rethymno, where he kept his rhythm from downtown and led the team to a respectable sixth-place finish as one of the side's top performers.
