Kingsley Okoroh was effective for England with 9 points on 4 of 5 field goals and 10 rebounds

England got off to a flying start at the U18 European Championship Division B in Sarajevo with a 71-58 victory over Israel.

Luke Nelson put the English in front to stay on Thursday with a basket midway through the first quarter to make it 10-9 in the Group A clash.

The lay-up sparked a 6-0 run.

Steven Bucknall's team stamped their authority on the contest in the third quarter when they outscored the Israelis, 24-15, for a 61-46 lead.

Nelson finished with 16 points while Kingsley Okoroh had nine points and 10 boards.

Israel received terrific efforts from Egor Koulechov, who had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Idan Zalmanson (14pts, 12rbs).

Scotland are also in Group A and they were torn apart by Hungary.

Benedek VĂ¡radi poured in 20 points and corralled 13 rebounds as Hungary, who led 26-9 at the end of the first quarter, rolled to a 76-44 victory.

The other Group A winners were Romania.

Vlad Popovici had 23 points and 13 boards in a 71-62 over Belarus.

Yahor Patupchyk scored a game-high 26 in defeat.

In Group B, the Czech Republic claimed a 79-69 victory over Luxembourg and Estonia romped to a 77-57 triumph over Austria.

For the Czechs, Karel Ausprunk scored 23 points and grabbed 13 boards.

Jo Hoeser had 25 points for Luxembourg, who faced a 57-54 deficit midway through the third quarter but fell away.

For Estonia in their win, Sander Saare had 17 points and three steals.

Sweden, Montenegro and Iceland prevailed in Group C.

The Swedes won a Scandinavian derby against Norway, 110-55, and Montenegro edged a close encounter with Finland, 76-71.

Milija Mikovic poured in 20 points for the Montenegrins.

Martin Hermannsson provided much of the inspiration for Iceland in their 89-71 win over Switzerland, scoring 21 points, grabbing five boards and dishing out four assists.

In a double-overtime thriller, Portugal won their Group D game against the Netherlands, 85-79.

Pedro Bastos had 21 points for the Portuguese.

Isaias Insaly had the first two baskets of the second overtime for Portugal.

Mike Schilder's three-ball for the Dutch with 15 seconds to go knotted the game at 68-68.

Nedim Buza and Adin Vrabac scored 18 points apiece for Bosnia and Herzegovina as they won their opener against Belgium, 79-65.

In a very tight game, Belgium only trailed 61-60 four minutes into the fourth quarter but were outscored 18-5 the rest of the way.
