Italy, the Netherlands and Spain all advance with a 2-1 record to the Qualifying Round, after the Dutch beat Italy, 49-47, in the last match of Group D.

Italy had the ambition to cap an undefeated run in the Preliminary Round, but the Netherlands have shown that they could spring a surprise, as they started dominating the boards.

Marzia Tagliamento led Italy to a 16-12 result after the first quarter and Cecilia Zandalasini made sure their advantage was secure at half time, 29-23.

In the second half, the Netherlands came back and got the lead, but the Italians recovered in the last minute of the third period.

The fourth quarter saw both teams missing a lot of shots, with the Netherlands prevailing in the end after Zandalasini missed a three-point-shot in the buzzer.

Deborah Vos' 14 points and Emese Hof's seven points and 16 rebounds stood out in the Dutch win, while Cecilia Zandalasini's nine points made her the best Italian scorer.

Even with this defeat, Italy keep the top spot in Group D, while Spain fell down to third place.
