Team 2010-11: VEF Riga (Latvia-LBL) Career: BK Ventspils (Latvia-LBL, 2009-10), VEF Riga (Latvia-LBL, 2010-11)
A member of the U20 Latvian squad, Dairis Bertans was one of the major standouts on the team, averaging 14 points per game in the tournament. The youngster has also had a solid Latvian league campaign with VEF Riga, and has held his own in the Eurocup, averaging nine points, two assists and just under a steal per game. Bertans strengths are running down the wings and creating his own space for a jump shot, though he lacks a consistent jumper. His main attribute is his ability to get to the hoop, especially in transition. He is quick off the ball, and has improved his passing over the last two years - which was needed, as it's one of the most important tools for a guy in his position. He is able to perform well in crunch time, but as he is stepping up to the senior level, he might have to improve on his conditioning and become more comfortable playing at the highest level. Once he does that, look for him to be one of the bright stars in Latvian basketball. |
