|Tobias Borg and the Kings made a winning debut to the EuroChallenge on Tuesday night|
Dino Pita's two foul shots with 11 seconds left finished his strong fourth quarter as Södertälje Kings held off Tampereen Pyrintö 74-68 at home in both teams' Group C opener of the EuroChallenge.
Pita scored 17 points while Toni Bizaca led the Swedish team with 23 points and Kenneth Simms collected 10 points and 15 rebounds. Lamonte Ulmer paced the guests from Finland with 25 points while Damon Williams tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
The first quarter featured 10 lead changes and four ties and Tempereen led 23-21 after the period.
The second quarter had just one lead change and Södertälje were ahead 34-29 but went into the locker rooms deadlocked at 36-36.
Bizaca scored two baskets in a 6-0 run early in the second half for a 44-38 Kings lead. And Tobias Borg helped keep the Finns at bay, 53-48, before Ulmer and Williams scored to cut the deficit to 53-52 going into the fourth.
Tampereen grabbed the lead with the first four points of the final quarter but Adnan Chuk and Bizaca answered with back-to-back triples for a 59-56 Södertälje lead. Pita would nail back-to-back three-pointers and another long ball later to keep Södertälje ahead. And his free throws with 11 seconds left secured the victory.
