EuroChallenge finalists Pinar Karsiyaka could become on Tuesday the second team to seal a place in the Turkish BEKO Ligi play-off semi-finals, if they prevail over Fenerbahce Ulker in Game 2 of the first round series between the two sides.
Karsiyaka, who had finished in fifth place in the Regular Season, won the first game 74-68 on the road on Saturday to gain the home-court advantage over the Istanbul powerhouse in their best-of-three series.
Power forward Ümit Sonkol was instrumental in the success of Ufuk Sarica's team in Game 1 as he came off the bench to contribute a game-high 16 points on 3-for-4 shooting from three-point range and eight rebounds.
But the main factor in Karsiyaka's Game 1 win was their trademark hard-as-nails defence, as they gave up only 27 points to their hosts in the entire second half and overturned a 12-point deficit.
Banvit, who had taken third place in the Regular Season standings, became the first team to punch their ticket to the semi-finals on Monday, following an 81-74 home win over Besiktas in Game 2 of their quarter-final series.
Anadolu Efes and TED Ankara Kolejliler are tied at 1-1 after both of them won on the road while Regular Season winners Galatasaray Medical Park hold a 1-0 advantage over Tofas Bursa, who competed in the EuroChallenge this year.
KRASNYE KRYLIA ELIMINATED IN VTB PLAY-OFFS
Meanwhile, the VTB United League campaign of EuroChallenge champions Krasnye Krylia came to an end on Monday, following a 69-56 loss to CSKA Moscow at home in Game 4 of their quarter-final series.
The Moscow giants, who will now meet Khimki in the play-off semi-finals of the competition, established a 10-point lead towards the end of the second quarter and held on to it until the final buzzer, without allowing Krasnye Krylia to ever come closer than six points again.
Serbian internationals Vladimir Micov and Nenad Krstic led the way for the winners with 18 and 16 points respectively while Omar Thomas finished with 13 points for Krasnye Krylia in defeat.
In the other semi-final series, that tips off on Friday, Eurocup champions Lokomotiv Kuban will take on Lithuanian champions Zalgiris Kaunas.
