Russia: Samara Snap Up Diamantopoulos

09 January 2007

CSK VVS Samara have signed Greece guard Giorgos Diamantopoulos until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has played for Panionios and Olympiacos in the past, but split last season between Rozeto in Italy and Spanish second division club Aqua Palma Magica.

He averaged 14.8 points per game with Rozeto but only 4.8 ppg with Palma.

Diamantopoulos could make his debut when Samara play Mlekarna Kunin in the EuroCup Challenge quarter-finals on Thursday.

Meanwhile, UNICS Kazan have released veteran guard Igor Kudelin after his contract expired.

The 34-year-old joined the club on a short-term deal in October 2006.

He played seven games, averaging 4.1 points and 1.5 rebounds.
