SLUC Nancy may not have qualified for the FIBA Europe League play-offs, but they showed their determination against visitors Vojvodina, taking the Serb and Montenegrin side into overtime and winning 96:93.
Nancy were hampered from the start of the game as Fred Vinson was forced to the bench with an injury after just 2 minutes. With Vinson out, Nancy looked to fellow guard Filip Videnov, while Dusan Nedic and JoJo Garcia provided the inside threat.
Nancy took an early lead, but Vojvodina stayed in contention thanks to the scoring of Milan Gurovic and Omar Stewart. Nancy had particular problems containing Stewart inside and the American missed just 2 shots all night, ending up with 30 points and 12 rebounds.
Nancy attempted to increase the pace after halftime with Maxime Zianveni providing particular excitement on a couple of highlight dunks. However, it was Vojvodina who edged ahead.
As the game wound down, it was clear that it was going to be a close affair. The scoreboard read 81:81 with 22 seconds to go and clutch free throw shooting from both sides saw the score remained tied at the end of regulation, 86:86.
Overtime began with a Randolph Childress three-pointer for Nancy. It was the break the home team needed, but Vojvodina were not rattled and came back to tie the score at 93:93.
With one last possession, Nancy got the ball to Ismaïla Sy alone in the corner behind the 3-point line. Sy has hit 31% of his 3-ball attempts this season, but this was the biggest and his shot at the buzzer won the game for Nancy.
