02 August 2010
The Qualifying Round of the U18 European Championship Women 2010 tournament in Slovakia started with Italy knocking down Turkey by 63-52 in Poprad Arena and making a huge step towards the Quarter-FInals.

Francesca Dotto top scored for Italy with 15 points and added five rebounds. Italy managed to slowdown Olcay Cakir who led Turkey in scoring, but collected 13 of her 14 points in the first half.

Italy was leading most of the first quarter but in the end Turkey converted a few of Italy's turnovers into points and took the lead with 17-16.

Neither team could gain any significant advantage though until Clara Salvini's jumper initiated a 7-0 run that closed the third quarter with a 44-35 in advantage for Italy.

Italy started the final quarter with better focus and stretched the margin to 15 points with eight minutes to go in regulation.

Turkey tried to initiate a comeback with a 10-0 run behind five points by Emel Güler, but the Azzure responded with a few fastbreak baskets to stay ahead.
