Team 2012-13: Toronto Raptors (USA-NBA)
Career: Stella Azzurra Roma (Italy-DNB, 2001-03); Benetton Treviso (Italy-Lega, 2003-06); Toronto Raptors (Canada-NBA, 2006-13); New York Knicks (USA-NBA, 2013)
Two years ago, during his last European basketball experience, Andrea Bargnani starred at EuroBasket with 22.8 points-per-game and a 36-point high against Latvia (his record with the Azzurri squad). Since then, the Magician lost his flow, essentially because of physical concerns, as he played only 66 out of a possible 148 games in the previous two NBA seasons. EuroBasket 2013 is opening a new era in Bargnani's career, because it will be the first competition after leaving the Toronto Raptors (where he played all of his seven NBA seasons) and moving to a title contender in the New York Knicks. In Slovenia, Bargnani hopes to find some playing consistency, while Italy will offer him an offensive reference role. With his supreme technical skills (especially considering his size) the center can be a threat both in the paint and on the perimeter, because of his excellent three-point percentages and his one-on-one abilities. He will be asked to be the offensive leader, but at the same time the key will be his defensive attitude, as Italy will ask Bargnani for a big effort in the paint, both in rebounding and defence, something that he has not brought with consistency throughout his career, despite some promising shot-blocking skills.
