Italy Silence Sweden In Second Half

Fabio Mian led the Italian renaissance from the second quarter onwards with 16 points and nine rebounds

Italy made their way to the Second Round of the U20 European Championship with an 87-62 victory against Sweden on the last day of action in Group D, to improve to 2-1.

The Swedes meanwhile lost their third consecutive game and will have to play in the classification games for 13th to 16th place.

Italy will advance to the next round with one victory in their account having defeated Lithuania, who are also through to the next round, in their previous game.

Although Sweden started the game better and had a 17-7 advantage midway through the first period, Italy raced back into the game after halftime.

The Italians managed to contain Marcus Eriksson, who finished the game with 1-of-8 field goals and only five points.

Sweden shot only 36.2 percent from the field.

Fabio Mian was one rebound away from a double-double, with 16 points and nine boards and Marco Lagana collected 12 points.

For Sweden, Tobias Borg had 23 points and Viktor Gaddefors chipped in with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, but the Swedes lacked bigger contribution from the bench.
