Amedeo Della Valle scored 20 points and Francesco Veccia added 18 as Italy stunned Russia 89-48 in Group D at the U18 European Championship Men.

Raphael Gaspardo added 13 points and Matteo Imbro had 10 points, five rebounds and six assists for Italy, who shot 49 percent for the game including 11-26 (42 percent) from long range.

Russia, who turned the ball over 27 times and shot just 33 percent for the game were led by Gleb Goldyrev with 19 points and seven rebounds.

Italy used an 8-0 run to jump ahead early in the game 14-5 and an 11-2 surge pushed the gap to 16 points before leading 27-13 after one period.

The Italians continued to force Russia out of their offense and hit their three-pointers in continually building the lead to 23 points for a 49-26 lead at halftime.

Russia could never find their rhythm offensively and just watched as Italy pulled further and further away. The lead was 75-41 after three quarters and Italy opened a 42-point margin in the fourth quarter.
