Israel And Italy Advance

17 July 2005

Group C was the tightest of the four with three teams recording a 2-1 record.

However, it is Italy and Israel who advance with Slovenia missing out. Israel secured their place with a 59-56 defeat of Italy.

A tight game was ultimately settled by two Omri Casspi free throws as time elapsed.

Italy had one chance at forcing overtime but Luigi Datome's three-pointer missed the basket.

Elishay Kadir led Israel with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Slovenia at least had the consolation of going out on a high with a 54-44 win against Bulgaria - Klemen Lorbek pouring in 18 points.

France cruised through from Group A with a 100% record following an 80-71 triumph against Russia, who also advance.

Guard Marc-Antoine Pellin led the way for the French with 17 points.

Sunday's other game in the Group was won by Germany, who beat Lithuania 87-84.
