In a match which would decide first place in Group B of the Umcor European Championship U18 Women in Tenerife, Serbia & Montenegro had no problems handling Hungary.
Serbia & Montenegro's 43-72 win sees the 2005 champions into the quarter-final round, while Hungary's second place in the group is also enough to advance.
Sonja Petrovic, Maja Miljkovic and Jelena Cerina are the only leftovers from last year's gold medal winning team. However, despite the infusion of new blood, Serbia & Montenegro have plenty of strength in depth, as witnessed by the team's performance so far in the touranment.
They easily dispatched Germany and Belarus in their opening two contests, and the game against Hungary proved no different.
Serbia & Montenegro grabbed the game by the throat as early as the opening minutes, and led 12-3 midway through the first quarter.
It was cruise control for the rest of the contest for the Serbs and Hungary never threatened to pose any serious threat.
Sonja Petrovic led Serbia & Montenegro with an all-round performance, racking up 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Smiljana Ivanovic top scored with 13.
