For a long time it looked like the National Team career of Aikaterina Sotirou would never quite get started but she made it to EuroBasket Women 2009 and then also the FIBA World Championship Women last year and in both cases, she came off the bench to bring energy to the team just when it was needed most. While not necessarily a natural scorer at the elite level, she grabbed 9 points in 17 minutes against Australia in the Czech Republic last year and such pivotal cameos are always within her capability. With aggressive defence and the experience of playing in EuroCup Women with Sony Athinaikos, where she has also gradually increased her influence on the team, Sotiriou is always ready when called upon and if she can get her perimeter game firing on all cylinders then even better for Greece.
