After leading the youth National Team to the Final of the U18 European Championship in 2007, where he averaged 26.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game to take the tournament MVP honours, it was always going to be a matter of when and not if, Kostas Koufos jumped up to the senior team. As it happened, EuroBasket 2009 gave him the opportunity and he showed he could contribute on Greece's way to a podium finish. With added NBA experience since then to call upon, he is capable of standing up to any opposing center in the tournament and will be able to give Greece a big rebounding presence. He will contribute well offensively to the team as he can score inside and make jump-shots. While his defence is still in need of some work, at just 22-years-old, he looks set to be an influential player in future years.
