| 23.07.2011 U18 MEN Slovenia held on for their first victory at the U18 European Championship Men by beating Greece 66-64 to advance to the Qualifying Round.
Luka Rupnik led the way with 14 points and Matej Rojc added 12 points for the Slovenians who finished Group A with a 1-2 record.
Greece dropped to 0-3 despite 11 points and 10 rebounds from Emmanouil Tselentakis and will now play to stay in the Division.
Slovenia led 10-5 before the Greeks scored six straight points to take their first lead 11-10. The game was deadlocked 17-17 after one quarter.
The second period was tight throughout with Greece leading by three points at 27-24 but Slovenia up 34-33 at halftime.
The Slovenians opened the second half on an 8-2 run to open a seven-point lead, 42-35. The lead grew to 50-40 with Slovenia ahead 53-45 after three quarters.
Slovenia pushed the lead to 60-45 with six minutes but struggled to score after that point and just barely held on for the victory as Greece closed the game with a 19-6 run but it was not enough. |
