Johannes "Joe" Herber returns to the German team for the first time since EuroBasket 2007 having overcome a serious knee injury as well as problems with his calf since his last time around. He played a key role in Germany's run to the quarter-finals in 2007, but tore a knee ligament in training with Alba Berlin later that year. However, he completed his rehabilitation and demonstrated he is now definitely somewhere near his best once again after playing in all 34 regular season games with Walter Tigers Tübingen last season. After a promising junior career with Langen, Herber enjoyed a stellar US college career at West Virginia University, setting school records for both the most games started and also minutes played, helping them to the Elite Eight of the 2005 NCAA tournament. A versatile guard with an excellent outside shot, he is also able to battle inside when need be.
