Nowitzki Thrilled With Kaman Addition

Dirk Nowitzki firmly believes the addition of American center Chris Kaman gives the German team the edge it needs to reach the Beijing Games.

Kaman, whose great grandparents were German, received his passport earlier this month but wasn't able to play in any of the country's warm-up games before their clashes with Cape Verde and New Zealand in Group B of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

"We can count on Chris," said Nowitzki, the driving force in Germany's national team for the past several years.

"We are all excited because at last the problems have been solved and now he is with us.

"We had to wait for a passport to be issued, for the matter of the insurance to be settled and then for him to join the team."

Nowitzki frequently faces his new teammate when his Dallas Mavericks take on Kaman's Los Angeles Clippers.

He knows exactly what to expect when Kaman is on the floor.

Kaman scores, rebounds and plays great defense.

"Since the first day of training, he gave us that extra boost and I am positive that he will help us achieve our goal," Nowitzki said.

That, of course, is to qualify for the Olympics - something NBA superstar Nowitzki has never done.

"This is the big dream of my career and what I yearn for," he said.

"By a few points only, we did not travel to Sydney and we also failed to qualify for Athens. Now we have one more chance.

"I am eager to play at the Olympics, to be in the parade in the Olympic Stadium, to feel the atmosphere and to stay at the Olympic Village. I want to achieve this at least just once in my career."
