Bastian Doreth has been considered one of the bigger prospects in the playmaking position for Germany, especially by former coach Dirk Bauermann who was one of his mentors in the Bamberg youth programme that saw Doreth play for clubs in his hometown Nurnberg for some years (the Nurnberg teams he played for were farm clubs of the Bamberg system). Failing to make the first team in Bamberg, he followed the call of coach Bauermann and suited up as Steffen Hamann's backup for Bayern Munich as they were promoted to the BBL. In Bayern's first season in the BBL he found it hard to find court time and was then loaned out to Trier were here progressed nicely, playing a solid BBL season. While his development was steady, he appears to be a backup solution for the national team who could profit from the absence of Dennis Schröder. Doreth is solid from outside but struggles to finish with good percentages inside the arc.
