| 20.07.2009 By David Hein Slovenia and Israel took the first step to remaining in the U20 European Championship Division A by notching victories in the first games of the classification round. Zoran Dragic collected 26 points, eight rebounds and four steals as Slovenia beat Germany 86-77 to improve to 1-0. Luka Dimex added 16 points for Radomir Mijanovic's team and Marko Vranjkovic chipped in 14 points. Germany dropped to 0-1 in the four-team round despite Elias Harris scoring 15 points and Robin Benzing hitting for 14 points. Israel also opened classification round play with a win, beating Belgium 92-71 with Amit Simhon and Anton Shoutvin leading the way with 21 points and six rebounds each. Sean Daniel added 17 points for Ariel Beit-Halahmi's team. Belgium have still not won a game, dropping to 0-1 in classification even though Jorn Steinbach, Alexandre Libert and Ioann Iarochevitch all scored 15 points. |
