Bekteshi Trey Seals German Victory

Besnik Bekteshi nailed a three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining to end a nearly six-minute stretch without a basket for Germany, who held on for a 68-66 victory over Turkey in Group B at the U18 European Championship Men.

Bekteshi scored 15 points to lead Germany while Dennis Schröder added 13 points and Bogdan Radosavljevic had 11 points. Turkey's Berkay Candan led all scorers with 16 points with Kenan Sipahi scoring 15 points and Samet Geyik chipping in 12 points.

Turkey led all of the first quarter, their biggest lead being five points for an 18-13 advantage. The cushion grew to eight points 23-15 before Germany pulled to within one point. But Turkey led 37-32 at the break.

Germany scored the first 10 points of the second half but gave up the next eight points in watching Turkey go ahead 45-42. The Germans bounced back and Bekteshi scored eight straight points as Germany were leading 57-50 after three quarters.

The gap was still seven points, 63-56 after a three-point play by Stephan Haukohl. But Germany went nearly six minutes without a basket as Turkey got within 65-64 before Bekteshi hit his three-pointer from the left side. Radosavljevic was fouled with two seconds left and Germany ahead 68-66 but he missed both free throws.

Luckily Paul Zipser tipped the rebound in the air and time expired on Turkey.
