Drama As Croatia Edge Germany

Croatia remained perfect at the U18 European Championship Men by holding on for a 52-51 victory over Germany in the Qualifying Round Group E.

Mislav Brzoja scored 22 points and Marko Ramljak added 13 points for Croatia, who are 3-0 and atop the group.

Germany dropped 1-2 in the group despite 11 points from Dennis Schröder and Bogdan Radosavljevic.
Germany led early 6-0 and 8-2 before Croatia went on a 10-0 run and were leading 14-10 after one quarter.

Germany went on a 7-0 run to even the game at 17-17 but Croatia answered with a 7-0 spurt of their own and led 24-20 at halftime.

The Croatian cushion grew to eight points - 29-21 - and was 34-26 when Germany scored nine straight points to pull ahead 35-34. But Croatia were up 37-35 after three periods.

Germany's last lead was 41-39 though the game was tied at 47-47. Ramljak hit a three-pointer off the glass for a 52-47 lead with two minutes to play. Besnik Bekteshi answered with a tough jumper over the backboard and Paul Zipser hit a layup to make it 52-51 with 53 seconds left.

Zipser turned the ball over on a drive to the basket with 10 seconds left and then the Germans could not foul the Croatians thereafter to force free throws.
