Three In A Row For Germany, Bulgaria Face Relegation

Classification Round

Germany remained perfect in the Classification Round of the OMNITEL U18 European Championship after a 65-58 win at Lietuvos Rytas Arena in Vilnius, Lithuania on Wednesday afternoon.

The result created a big gap between the two sides as Germany took a 3-0 record while Bulgaria dropped to 0-3 at the end of the first round of games in the group.

Martin Breunig was the best scorer of Germany with 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Dennis Kramer finished with 14.

Dimitar Dimitrov topped the score sheet of Bulgaria with 17 points while Tencho Tenchev added 12 with 8 rebounds.

Despite the opposite records Bulgaria wasn't far from writing and upset and trailed by only 2 points in the closing minutes, yet Ole Wendt hit 4 in a row from the line and Breuing hit a key jumper to keep Germany safe.

A very tight first quarter saw Germany leave the floor after 10 minutes up by only 2 points, 16-14.

Patrick Heckmann and Kramer stepped up and 6 points in a row by the latter led Germany to a 33-22 lead after 19 minutes.

Tanchev was there to reply with 6 of his own with two hits from the arc right before the buzzer and cut the margin to only 5, 33-28 after 20 minutes.

Bulgaria continued to eat on the gap and reached already a 33-33 tie and even held a small lead, but Germany remained calm and used the start of the 4th quarter to take a 9 point gap, 54-45 after the Wendt twins combined 8 points in a row.

It wasn't enough to keep Bulgaria quiet and Tenchev with another three pointer wrote just 57-55 on the scoreboard with 2:13 to go, before Germany made the last push and decided the game.

Germany will take on Ukraine when the Classifiaction Round games renew on Friday while Bulgaria face Sweden in hope to revenge the big loss in the first game.
