Russia broke open a close game in the final quarter and beat Germany 95-81 on the first day of the U18 European Championship Men in Belgrade.

The Russians led 70-66 at the end off the third period but then turned on the style.

Ahead at 78-70 with 8:06 to play in the game, the winners scored nine successive points over the next three and a half minutes to lead 87-70 and effectively kill off the game.

Vasily Zavoruev had 26 points for Russia, and he was ably supported by Yaroslav Korolev who poured in 24.
