Cedevita Go Through Despite Defeat

06 October 2010

Cedevita Zagreb held on comfortably to an aggregate win of 35 points to proceed to EuroCup Regular Season - despite losing 73-72 on the night to Enterprise BC Dynamo.

The first quarter saw the honours even as Marino Bazdaric and Corsley Edwards kept the visitors in the game at 20-22 after the first ten minutes.

The second quarter saw the home team post a 9-0 run to start while Dynamo, led by Alexey Zhukanenko kept the visitors away from the basket for long spells.

Dynamo managed to keep the gap near double digits until the buzzer sounded for the end of the half when Bazdaric beat the clock to bring the gap to five points heading into the locker rooms at 40-35.

The gap remained the same for the most part in the third quarter before Edwards dropped points for the visitors to help draw his team level and then pass the home team at 47-48.

Dontaye Draper then shot a three pointer at the buzzer to keep his team ahead with a five point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The home team then fought back and levelled at 60-60 before moving in front. However, Damjan Rudez levelled it with a downtown score for the visitors at 70-70 with just over a minute remaining.

Nikita Shabalkin replied immediately for Dynamo with a three pointer at the other end, before Rudez scored two out of two from the line to make it a one point game with 43 seconds to go.

Voronov had the chance to close the game out, but a missed lay-up with 20 seconds to go gave Zagreb the last possession which they didn't manage to convert with.
