The 22-year-old Strelnieks, who averaged 9.8 points and 3.8 assists in Ventspils' four games (including a Eurocup Qualifying Round tie defeat to Azovmash), has moved to the Russian PBL's Spartak Saint Petersburg.
"I've been here (at Ventspils) a long time," Strelnieks said, "and though now I'm going to another team, that doesn't mean that I'll forget Ventspils and cut all the links.
"I will definitely follow the team in the standings.
"Who knows, maybe someday even going to play in Ventspils."
Coach Gundars Vetra is likely to have a new face in the line-up, then, when the team hosts BC Nizhny Novgorod in the EuroChallenge this week.
The club has signed former Barons Riga guard Todd Abernethy.
The 27-year-old Abernethy is no stranger to the country, or the EuroChallenge.
Ventspils will be without center Sam Willard after the 23-year-old power forward sprained his ankle at the weekend.
The Baltic club is 1-1 in EuroChallenge Group D following last week's victory over Atomerömü SE.
