NEWSFrance’s U16 Boys made history today in Amaliada, Greece, becoming the first side ever from their country to win a European Championship at this age level. It is the 18th time that this competition has been played and in 17 attempts, France had failed to win a medal.
Les Bleus had come close in recent history, finishing in 4th place in 1997 and 1999, and 5th in 2001 and 2003. |

France may have won gold in Amaliada, but Russia scooped the individual awards as 2 of their players were selected to the Tournament All-Star Five.
Vitaly Kuznetsov was chosen to the All-Star Five and selected as Tournament MVP. The 194 cm forward averaged 18.1 ppg in Amaliada, including a championship-high 35 points against Lithuania in the semi-finals. He was especially lethal from long range and made 48.8% of his 3-point attempts (21/43). |
