A late call-up, Petro entered 2013 on 25 appearances for France. In 2006, he made his debut in a friendly with Switzerland ahead of a competitive bow at the FIBA World Championship in Japan. He previously represented his country at Under-16 and Under-18 levels. A product of INSEP, he turned professional with Pau-Orthez winning a Pro A title. He was selected 25th in the 2005 NBA Draft and joined the Seattle Supersonics, spending four seasons with the franchise, including one following their re-location to Oklahoma City. He then joined the Nets for two seasons, scoring their final-ever basket in the state of New Jersey ahead of the team's move to Brooklyn. He moved to the Atlanta Hawks but was waived at season's end. Married to Vanessa, Petro spent much of his childhood living in the French Caribbean territories of Saint Martin and Guadeloupe.
