French U20 Win Against Latvia, Belgium

07 July 2008

France coach Richard Billant has high hopes for his young Blues at next month's U20 European Championship in Riga, Latvia, and nothing that happened in the team's first two friendlies over the weekend will have dampened his enthusiasm.

The Blueberries destroyed Latvia 97-66 on Saturday in Boulogne sur Mer and followed that up with a 101-60 mauling of Belgium on Sunday.

Rodrigue Beaubois scored 15, Abdoulaye M'Baye and Ludovic Vaty 13, Edwin Jackson 11 and Antoine Diot 10 for the French in the win over the Latvians.

Twenty-four hours later and Billant's team were in command by half-time against Belgium after opening up a 17-point advantage.

They cruised the rest of the way. Beaubois again led a balanced attack with 16 points while Adrien Moerman chipped in 13.

At the U20 European Championship in Latvia (August 1-10), the French will take on Russia, Slovenia and Serbia in Group D.
