Jardel Announces Preliminary France U20 Squad

12.05.2010

France coach Alain Jardel has named a 22-strong preliminary squad ahead of the U20 European Championship for Women in Latvia.

Jardel's team captured the gold medal last year but in 2010, he will have a completely new team.

However, there will be players in the side that have reached the podium before.

Isabelle Strunc, Linda Bousbaa, Allison Vernerey, Margaux Okou Zouzouo and Hhadydia Minte are in the preliminary squad and each won silver medals at the U18 European Championship for Women in Sweden last year.

Vernerey was among France's top players, averaging 11.6 points and 9.9 rebounds in Sweden, where France lost to Spain in the gold-medal game.

Jardel will gather with the players from June 2-13 at Clermont-Ferrand.

The group will then travel to Bourg-en-Bresse and play against Germany, Bulgaria and Poland.

From July 2-4, France will play in a warm-up tournament in Spain against Russia, Turkey and the Spaniards.

Jardel's group will finish up its preparations in Italy with a tournament against the hosts, the Netherlands and Spain.

The U20 European Championship for Women tips off in Liepaja, Latvia, on July 15.

France's three group games will be against Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Poland.
