Serbia Topple France, Earn Semis Spot

Serbia finished the game on a 22-7 run to advance to the semifinals of the U18 European Championship for the fourth time in five years with a 71-61 victory over France, setting up a last four date with Italy.

The 2007 and 2009 U18 champions Serbia received 19 points from Nemanja Bezbradica and 15 points by Nenad Miljenovic. Serbia took fourth last summer at the U18 tournament.

France have failed to reach the final four for the second straight year despite 15 points from Mouhammadou Jaiteh and 11 points each from William Howard and Benjamin John.

France jumped ahead 10-6 before Serbia grabbed control of the game with a 13-5 close to the first quarter, which ended with Serbia up 23-15.

The French pulled to within 28-22 only to see Nenad Miljenovic nail two triples in extending the lead to 13 points 35-22. But France went on a 10-3 run to close the first half and trail just 40-34 at the break.

France came back to even the game at 46-46 and the scored 49-49 after three quarters.

The French scored the first five points of the fourth quarter but Bezbradica and Miljenovic combined for 13 points in the decisive 22-7 final stretch.
