Italy Win U18 Friendly Against France

The Italian side gearing up for the U18 European Championship for Men bounced back from a couple of defeats at the recent International Tournament of London by winning 83-69 over France in Nancy on Saturday.

With the French and Italian senior teams getting ready to battle it out in the Additional Qualifying Round for EuroBasket 2009 in Poland, Luca Fontecchio scored 16 points and Marco Contento contributed 10 as Alessandro Ramagli's young Italy prevailed over France.

The countries will square off in friendly games again on Sunday and Monday.

In their previous two games at the warm-up tournament in London, Italy lost to the under-18 teams of Poland and Israel.

Italy will be in Group D with Israel, Lithuania and Russia at the U18 European Championship for Men, which tips off on July 23 in Metz, France.

The French are in Group A with Serbia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic while Poland will compete at the U18 European Championship for Men Division B in Sarajevo.
