The Netherlands ended their Group F campaign on a winning note in the qualifying round at the U20 European Championship Women by edging out Great Britain 70-66.
Although already eliminated, the Dutch showed no lack of fight as they held off the Brits in a close battle, surviving a late rally to secure the win.
Eight straight points early in the third quarter had given the Netherlands a 45-36 edge on Kourtney Treffers' lay-up and the gap had grown to 12 when Chatilla van Grinsven added a free throw to her lay-up to make it 53-41 with 3:39 left in the period.
But Britain responaded with eight straight points to get back in the fight and eventually drew level, 63-63, on a three-pointer from Kristie Sheils with 3:32 remaining in the game.
Maxime Essenstam made back-to-back lay-ups to put the Dutch back in front but when Temi Fagbenle made a lay-up Britain were within one, 67-66, with just seconds left in the game.
However, Tessel van Dongen coolly slotted free throws at the end to secure the win.
Van Grinsven scored 19 points and added 13 rebounds for the Dutch, while Essenstam had 18 points and 12 rebounds, with Treffers scoring 13.
Fagbenle led Britain with 14 points and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes of action, while Renee Busch and Sheils each added 11.
