Career: Franklin Pierce (USA-NCAA, 2006-10), AZS Gorzow (Poland- PLKK, 2010-11)
Jo Leedham is one of the most influential and talented players for Great Britain and is likely to continue to be absolutely vital heading into London 2012. She was drafted by the WNBA's Connecticut Sun after a successful College career and made her debut in EuroLeague Women last season with Gorzow. Offensively, she has an incredible nose for the basket while defensively, her pressure on the ball is very good with her hand speed allowing her to get a large number of steals. She lives for the fast break, and has the ability to carve up her defender with an innate ability to finish around the rim. There are a couple of areas like her speed-endurance where she still needs work, but if successful she could become be a really complete player. Her three-point threat, all round-scoring and ball pressure will be absolutely critical in how Great Britain fare. She hit the buzzer-beating jump shot that gave Great Britain their first ever Division A victory back in 2008 against Germany and she grabbed 3.5 steals per game last summer during the Qualifying Round which was absolutely vital to help the team punch their ticket to the big event. She heads back to Poland for EuroBasket Women 2011 following on from her spell at Gorzow with a potentially heavy load to carry on her relatively young shoulders since Great Britain really do need her to perform. |
