Having become one of Great Britain's youngest-ever debutants in a 2010 friendly against Canada, van Oostrum earned a berth at EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania, playing a tournament-high 23 minutes against Spain. He was not selected for the 2012 Olympics but returns this summer fresh from helping GB to earn promotion into Division A of the U20 European Championship in July, averaging a tournament-leading 26.8 points-per-game. He began his career in the junior teams at Sheffield Sharks at the age of seven before signing for Spanish ACB club Baskonia (Laboral Kutxa) in 2009. Having spent periods in their development programme, and on loan in the LEB at Tarragona and Caceres, he was recalled to Vitoria midway through the 2012-13 season and settled into their ACB squad. Van Oostrum was born in Groningen, Netherlands but his family moved to the UK when he was aged five. His brother Nigel is a former GB U20 international. On Twitter @DevonVanOostrum.
