Career: Florida (USA - NCAA, 2008-2011)
Azania Stewart has made a name for herself in the ranks of US collegiate basketball although it hasn't all been plain sailing. Before her freshman season in 2008-2009, Stewart had to have a non-functioning kidney removed, but still went on to average over 10 minutes a game off the bench for the Gators. She played for England at U16 Level in 2004-2005 and was subsequently called up every year while exiled in the States. The summer of 2009 also saw Stewart take her first steps as a member of the Great Britain team at the World University Games in Belgrade where she turned in an eye-catching tournament, averaging 11 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, including a phenomenal 18 point and18 rebound double-double against the Czech Republic. That and her college form ensured she received her first call-up to the senior team last year where she impressed in the Qualifying Round. An exciting prospect at center, she works well under the boards and has developed a good repertoire of post moves. |
