Vojdan Stojanovski was one of three players to finish with 12 points for F.Y.R. of Macedonia
Hosts Denmark pushed F.Y.R. of Macedonia hard for 40 minutes but the visitors held on for an 81-75 victory on Wednesday, in Day 2 action in Group D of the EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round.
While Denmark led for only 33 seconds in the entire game, F.Y.R. of Macedonia felt the hosts breathing down their neck until the final minutes.
F.Y.R. of Macedonia enjoyed their only double-digit lead late in the second quarter, when they used a 10-0 run to pull away 44-34 with 51 seconds remaining to the half-time buzzer.
Marko Simonovski was the instigator of that burst for the guests as he hit two triples within that three-minute stretch.
Denmark were in no mood to lay over however and Esben Reinholt came up with three excellent personal plays to cap off an 8-0 run for the hosts that enabled them to tie the scores at 51 with 3:18 left to play in the third.
F.Y.R. of Macedonia regained a small cushion and after an Aleksandar Kostoski lay-up gave them a 79-72 lead with 58 seconds remaining, Mathias Seilund sunk a triple to reduce to 79-75 with 39 seconds left on the clock.
Darko Sokolov turned the ball over and Denmark called a time-out with 17 seconds to the final buzzer to draw their play but, when play resumed, first Jonas Bergstedt missed a triple and then Esben Reinholt failed to capitalise on his offensive rebound.
Bojan Trajkovski came up with the steal and passed the ball to Damjan Stojanovski, who wrote the final score with a lay-up seven seconds from time.
Simonovski, Sokolov and Vojdan Stojanovski all finished with 12 points for the winners, while Seilund collected a game-high 17 points and Esben Reinholt had 16 points for Denmark in defeat.
