Romania Roar Past Cyprus


Romania opened up their EuroBasket qualifying campaign with a 79-64 win over Cyprus.

The Romanians were up 20-17 at the end of the first quarter but stepped up the pace in the second and went into the interval ahead 42-29.

In the third quarter, Liviu Calin's team continued to press home their advantage and ended the quarter with an 18-point advantage, 62-44.

Bogdan Popescu led the Romanians in scoring as he poured in 18 points as well as claiming nine rebounds.

Brice Kabengele Kalala drilled in 17 points and Catalin Burlacu added 15 to power them to victory.

Center Panagiotis Trisokkas was the top scorer for the Cypriots as he claimed 17 points.

Romania and Switzerland top Group A in Division B with two points after
winning their opening matches.
