Cyprus' tour of Greece took a disappointing turn when they found themselves on the losing side against club side Sporting on Thursday.
Coach Kyriakos Yiangoullis declared at the start of the four-game series against Greek domestic outfits that results were secondary to performances and as such he has been experimenting with a host of permutations and tactics.
Nevertheless he will be disappointed to see his side overturned by club players just days before the EuroBasket 2007 qualifiers get underway.
His side edged the first encounter, against Palio Faliro (69-67), before a more assured display against Milonas (63-45) but that confidence ebbed away as they fell to defeat in the third match.
Cyprus won the first quarter by seven points, establishing a 19-12 lead, before each side scored eight points in the second quarter to leave the score at 27-20 at the halfway stage.
But Yiangoullis' side crumbled in the second half as Sporting finished the game 56-48 ahead.
Giorgios Anastasiadis was one of the few players who performed for the Cypriots - who begin their EuroBasket qualifying campaign against Romania on September 3 - top-scoring with 18 points.
