For the first time this year, the EuroLeague Women Player Of The Week award did not end up in a Fenerbahce player's hands, but stayed nonetheless within hotly disputed Group B. Monica Wright, who led Lotos Gdynia to their first win of the season on Thursday against Gospic, reached an overall efficiency rating of 26 to claim this week's title. The Gdynia shooting guard played almost the entire game and her brilliant performance was one of the main reasons the Polish outfit were able to come back from 14 points behind to snatch victory in a thrilling finale. The Texas-born player, in her best night in the competition so far, had 26 points with 12-for-23 from the field. She added 7 rebounds, 5 assists and -interestingly for a 1.80m guard- a blocked shot. Perhaps Wright's greatest contribution though, and one that is not necessarily reflected in statistics, was keeping ice-cold calm in the dying minutes of such a close encounter, where a safe pair of hands is always useful, to propel her team to victory. Rebekkah Brunson was a very close second, reaching an efficiency rating of 25. The Ros Casares center was pivotal in the Spanish team's big win at Beretta-Famila on Wednesday night, with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She could perhaps have snatched the award from Wright had she not been fouled out after 31 minutes of playing time. Penny Taylor, the player with the highest efficiency rating in week 1, was among the five players that tied in third position this week with 24, while last week's top performer, Diana Taurasi, was among the seven players that reached an efficiency rating of 23 to prove that gameday 3 was marked by a number of equally brilliant perfomances.
