Lotos Land Telling Blows Early In Win Over Szeviép

Magdalena Leciejewska made headlines at the EuroBasket Women in Latvia for Poland and now she's doing the same with Lotos Gdynia after leading the team to victory over Hungarians Szeviép in the EuroLeague Women.

Leciejewska, who hit a turnaround jumper at the buzzer to lead the Poles past Greece in their Group B EuroBasket meeting on June 8, turned on the style on Thursday night with 17 points and 11 rebounds to fire Lotos to a 74-61 triumph.

Jacek Winnicki's side improved to 2-1 in Group D with the victory.

Lotos seized the initiative late in the opening quarter.

With the home side on top 20-18, Leciejewska poured in four straight points to start a 14-0 Lotos run that bridged the first and second quarters.

Australia international playmaker Erin Phillips scored six points in that surge that put Lotos in command for good.

Lotos dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Szeviép 39-25.

Emilija Podrug had a game-high 12 boards to go with her six points for the winners.

Shameka Christon also had 17 points for Lotos while Phillips finished with nine.

Christon led an impressive shooting display for Gdynia by drilling five of seven shots from long range.

As a team, Lotos made nine of 17 (52.9%).

Szeviép, who lost their opener at Tarbes in France and then had last week's game against Spartak Moscow Region postponed, made eight of 17 (47%) shots from behind the arc.

Vaida Sipaviciute scored 14 points for the visitors while Emöke Füresz contributed 13 points and nine assists.
