Czech Republic: Bobrovsky Puts Spotlight On Bourges

Gambrinus Sika Brno coach Jan Bobrovsky insists Bourges Basket are favourites for their EuroLeague Women quarter-final clash.

Bobrovsky's side faced the French giants in Group B of the Qualification Round and quickly renew acquaintances, with the first match of the three-game series in France on Tuesday.

The two teams finished level on 8-2 but the Czechs topped the group by virtue of their superior head-to-head record, enjoying a comfortable win at home and losing by only six points at Bourges on January 18.

But Bobrovsky insists the three-time winners remain a force to be reckoned with.

"Bourges has quality and experience, and are favourite for this series, for sure," he said.

"We've already played them. We lost the game in France when our mistakes in the first half decided the winner. We did not play well in defence and I hope we will play better on Tuesday."

Gambrinus remain unbeaten in their domestic league and warmed up for the Bourges clash with a 125-60 thumping of Kara Trutnov and a victory over nearest rivals USK Praha.

"We tested our shape in the game against USK Praha in Czech league," Bobrovsky added.

"We won 96-71 but we did not play well in the last quarter when we lost our concentration.

"Bourges have already lost two home games in the French league against Mondeville and Aix-en-Provence, but I do not think it is an omen for us.

"I think they underestimated their opponents in both games and we can not expect the same in EuroLeague."

Gambrinus travelled to France in full strength after center Ivana Vecerova came through Friday's game with USK unscathed.

It was the 26-year-old's first game since a knee operation five months ago.
