Godin Rejects Les Bleues Gold Rush

Elodie Godin (France)
Elodie Godin was part of successful French teams over the past couple of years but has decided to rest this coming summer

Having had an Olympic silver medal hung around her neck last year, Elodie Godin won't be part of this summers' bid by France to go one better and land gold at EuroBasket Women.

The 27 year old has somewhat surprisingly revealed she won't be suiting up for the tournament hosts, opting instead to put her national team career on hold in favour of resting.

Whilst Godin wasn't one of the main protagonists in London, her contributions were still hugely valuable and her decision will no doubt be considered as a blow for head coach Pierre Vincent.

For her absence could potentially weaken his frontcourt options and perhaps also dilute the amount of major tournament experience at his disposal.

When it comes to rebounding and defence, Godin has again used the club season to highlight what she can bring to the table with some exceptional work in EuroLeague Women for Famila Schio.

She is enjoying a hugely productive campaign on the glass, having corralled 8.4 rebounds per game and is also the second-best shot blocker in the competition.

Godin didn't feature for France at the previous EuroBasket Women tournament two years ago in Poland, but did win the title and take gold back in 2009 in Latvia.

Whilst Godin will be missed, Les Bleues can at least still utilise the considerable talent of Isabelle Yacoubou, Sandrine Gruda and Emmeline Ndongue to do the bulk of the work in the paint.
