| 09.02.2012 EUROCUP WOMEN Botas Spor saw off the challenge of Gran Canaria on Wednesday evening and advanced to the EuroCup Women Semi-Finals. The Turkish club, with a three-point lead after last week's first leg, won the second, 62-55. Botas appeared to throw a knockout punch after storming into a 25-6 lead with 1:02 to play in the opening quarter. Nilay Kartaltepe had eight points in the first frame for the hosts and Quianna Chaney seven. Gran Canaria then battled back to make a game of it. The Spaniards, led by Lisa Lee's nine points in the first half, closed the gap to 38-27. When Patricia Arguello sank two free-throws late in the third quarter, Gran Canaria only trailed 46-41. A three-ball by Dandra Moss and jumper by Lee early in the fourth quarter knotted the game at 48-48 and suddenly the aggregate deficit was back to just three points. Botas then made the game-winning plays. Monica Wright hit a jumper for the hosts and after Vanessa Blé converted just one of two at the line for Gran Canaria, Noelle Kuin drilled a jump shot to make it 53-49 for Botas. Kartaltepe collected her eighth assist on that Kuin basket. Gran Canaria clawed the deficit back to 53-51 with two Astou Ndour free-throws, but Kartaltepe pulled up on a fast break and made a three-pointer to push the Botas advantage to 56-51. Lee kept the visitors' hopes alive when she made a lay-up with 43 seconds to go to cut the Botas second-leg lead to 57-53, but Chaney followed with a three-point play at the other end to stretch the advantage back to seven. Kartaltepe had a team-high 15 points and both Chaney and Wright 12. Courtney Paris grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and scored eight points. Lee had 17 points and Moss 11. Ndour ended up with 10 points and 10 boards. Blé had a team-high 11 boards to go with her six points for Gran Canaria. |
