Nantes Rezé Shine But Fall To Bourges

EuroCup Women outfit Nantes Rezé threw a scare into the French LFB's only undefeated team, Bourges Basket, on Sunday but ultimately fell to a 73-69 defeat.

Laurent Buffard's team hosted the game against Bourges, one of the top sides in the EuroLeague Women, and got 22 points from Allison Hightower.

Nantes Rezé (4-4) had a 40-38 lead at the break in a contest that was close from start to finish.

Bourges boss Pierre Vincent tipped his hat to the home team.

"They had nothing to lose and they played a good game," he said.

Buffard certainly could not fault the effort of his players, who out-rebounded Bourges 26-25.

Caroline Aubert finished with eight points after making two of three shots from long range for Nantes Rezé.

The strength of the French league was evident in another clash on Sunday when Arras won at home against Tarbes.

Arras, who are in the EuroCup, beat the EuroLeague Women side, 73-59.

Point guard Leilani Mitchell was unstoppable for Arras (5-3), pouring in 28 points, handing out six assists and corralling six rebounds.

ESB Lille Metropole, who won all six of their games in the first group stage of the EuroCup Women, continued to struggle on the domestic front as they fell 63-58 to Charleville-Mézières.

Lille are now 2-7 in the league.

Dynamo GUVD, Kursk Hammered

In Russia, Dynamo-GUVD travelled to Spartak M.R. Vidnoje and fell hard, 93-56.

Dynamo Kursk were also on the losing end, losing heavily at home to UMMC Ekaterinburg 72-50.

Both Dynamo-GUVD and Kursk advanced in the EuroCup Women with strong showings.

Mann Filter, Gran Canaria Taste Victories

In Spain's Liga Femenina, fourth-place Mann Filter Zaragoza thrashed CB Olesa 82-60 and fifth-place Gran Canaria won on the road at Celta Indepo 65-62. 

The Canary Islanders trailed 35-29 at half-time but had a strong third quarter and won, getting 17 points from Rosi Sanchez.

In Mann Filter's triumph, Jaklin Zlatanova scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack.

Both Gran Canaria and Mann Filter Zaragoza are still alive in the EuroCup Women.

Poland's EuroCup representatives, Energa Torun, lost 58-52 at CCC Polkowice.

They are seventh in the Polish standings.

No Greek Dramas

The defending champions of the EuroCup Women, Sony Athinaikos, went on a 10-0 midway through the first quarter to build a 25-12 advantage and prevailed 79-62 over Apollon Ptolemai.

Aris, who will take on Dynamo-GUVD in the EuroCup Women on December 16, also won 64-55 at Panionios.

Athinaikos are undefeated in Greece with Aris (4-2) fourth.

Reyer Venezia rolled to a 68-51 victory over Pozzuoli with Latvia international Liene Jansone scored 14 points and Daliborka Jokic 12.

Happy Hungarians

Hungarian teams Seat Györ and Szeviép are still alive in the EuroCup and they claimed convincing wins over the weekend.

Seat won 95-54 over BEAC after getting 24 points and 13 boards from Abi Olajuwon.

Anna Lakloth poured in 19 points as Szeviép Szeged thrashed Cegledi EKK, 84-51.

In Turkey, Besiktas claimed a 73-56 victory over Burhaniye Belediye after getting 14 points from their explosive scorer Iveta Salkauske.

Besiktas will square off against Mann Filter Zaragoza in the next phase of the EuroCup Women.
