Brno Add One-Two Punch With Grima, Skerovic

09 November 2009

Frisco Sika Brno had a couple of new weapons in their line-up on Saturday when they hosted BK Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary and rolled to a 113-52 victory.

Hollie Grima, a gold-medal winning center with Australia at the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women in Brazil, and seasoned EuroLeague Women veteran Jelena Skerovic of Montenegro have bolstered the Brno squad.

Skerovic has strengthened a Brno backcourt that is without one of its most important players, injured Slovakian playmaker Zuzana Zirkova.

The 28-year-old averaged 7.1 points, five rebounds and 3.6 assists in 33.1 minutes per game for Wisla Can-Pack Krakow last season in Europe.

She spent several years with the Polish outfit.

Grima, 25, has played in Italy and France and had been set to make her EuroLeague Women bow with CSKA Moscow before the club folded last month.

She will instead make her debut this week when Brno travel to France to go up against Tarbes GB and their France center Isabelle Yacoubou-Dehoui in Group D.

In a message to the Brno fans published on the club's website, Grima wrote: "Hi Brno. It's great to be here and I look forward to playing."

To make room for the Australian, Brno parted with German Linda Frohlich.

Skerovic and Grima had their first practices with Brno on Thursday and Brno coach Jan Bobrovsky wasted no time getting them into the line-up for Saturday's clash against BK Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary.

Skerovic played more than 18 minutes and had five points, four rebounds and four assists while Grima contributed seven points and six rebounds in less than 15 minutes.

Brno general manager Jiri Hamza didn't reveal the terms of the contracts for the players, but said: "Both transfers are realized in very good economic conditions.

"I'm sure both players will provide a lot of help. "
