|Petra Kulichová will play for a non-Czech club for the first time in her career, but she won't be far from home|
Czech Republic international Petra Kulichova has decided not to stray too far away from home.
The 27-year-old center, who averaged 3.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest last season in the EuroLeague Women for Prague, has also played for Brno and Trutnov.
Now she'll leave her country for the first time and play for the Slovakian champions.
Kosice are hoping that Kulichova can match the quality of performances that center Natalia Vieru provided last season.
The Russia international Vieru averaged 9.9 points and 7.9 boards in the EuroLeague Women as Kosice advanced to the Second Round.
The club had wanted to keep her but she has a contract with Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and is returning to the Russian club.
"Last year we had great luck with Natalia Vieru," Kosice general manager Daniel Jendrichovsky said.
"After her departure, we wanted to fill this position as quickly as possible so we decided to bring in Petra Kulichova."
Jendrichovsky will be counting on Kulichova to be a force defensively, particularly with her shot-blocking ability.
The Kosice supremo revealed that Kulichova received a ringing endorsement from Zuzana Zirkova, her former Brno teammate.
